HDMI Cables FAQ

How would I pre-test my HDMI cables for a planned installation?

The easiest way to test an HDMI cable is to use a dedicated HDMI cable tester, here at CYP we have you covered, take a look at our XA-3P, not only is it a UHD HDMI cable tester but its also a Pattern Generator and Analyser.

When is a HDMI cable most likely to be faulty?

Unlike electronic hardware, it is impractical to QC cabling in an cost effective manner therefore the biggest chance of a faulty HDMI cable is when is it brand new.

What lengths can standard HDMI cables come in?

Normal 'copper' based HDMI cable will normally come in lengths from 0.5m to 7m. Users need to remember that HDMI cable length maximums are for the total length of the system cabling. Therefore using, say two 5m HDMI cables in the same run, may cause in inconsistent results.

How do you overcome restrictions on HDMI cable distances?

A simple way of overcoming HDMI cable restrictions is to use a higher specified HDMI cable. For example if you wish to run a 4K HDMI signal over two 5m cables, using 8K HDMI cables will massively reduce potential inconsistencies. At greater distances you need to use hardware extender technology like HDBaseT.
